Alex responds to news of Moonlight's cancellation
This was posted on the CBS message board for Moonlight. I'm not sure if this is from his Myspace or not, but it seems very much real.

Family and Friends
Current mood: Shocked and sad

Dear Friends, Family and wonderful, wonderful Fans of MOONLIGHT.

Well, where to start....?
The decision to cancel MOONLIGHT... my MOONLIGHT... our MOONLIGHT, is
as much of a shock and gut wrenching surprise to me as it is to all of

Really, I don't even know where to begin.

I sit here at my computer, still slack jawed even 24 hours after
receiving the news that my services are no longer required on the set
of this show. A show we have all come to know and love deeply, and it
hurts more than I can possibly tell you.

Since i got THE CALL I have not read anything online or otherwise, I
have not been following blogs or forums, I have not been reading the
trades or opinion polls and I have not been calling around to get

"Why are you not fighting for your show?!" I hear you all scream!!
The truth is my friends, I never STOPPED fighting for it.
From the very beginning when I was told time and again that i wasn't
the man for the job, having to prove myself to everyone with tests and
screen tests, to a complete re-casting of the show, through 5
different show runners at the helm with 5 different artistic visions,
to a Writer's strike that took 5 episodes away from us...... oh how
the list goes on.

But through all of that, i am proud to say that not once did I bow
down and allow someone else to come in and do with MOONLIGHT as they
please. And along the way, if I needed a break and wanted to do that,
I don't think I could have anyway because, well, I suppose it's just
not in my nature!

This is all still so fresh for me and I am going to need a little time
to process this whole thing before i can digest what has actually
happened, let alone move on.

Honestly. I really feel lost for words.

I will say however, that never, never in my life have I experienced
first hand a level of support from a group of people like that of you
all who are reading this now, and who 'loved this show to life'
alongside me. It has been overwhelming to say the least.

I am grateful to you all.
I am extremely proud to be associated with this piece of television.
And I am so, so sorry to my very core, to lose MOONLIGHT.

All my love,

Alex O'Loughlin x

I really hope his next job is not so riddled with problems from the get-go. He deserves far more.

That just kills
I don't think there could have been a better man for the job. A fresh face was what was needed, not someone who had been over-exposed. And someone who had passion for it, which he clearly did.

Ah, that letter just broke my heart. I am fully disgusted that Moonlight has been canceled, but to read this from Alex leaves a huge lump in my throat. I'm going away to my quiet corner now. :-(

Hm, it's only natural that the actors are more affected than us. Poor people. They worked months on this show and it's probably a huge part of their lives.
His reaction is just understandable.

I was waiting around to read responses from Alex, Jason and Sophia. I want to make a myspace just to message Alex, whether he reads his messages on myspace or not he has been an amazing actor all through Moonlight and I definatley plan on following his career. He seems like a really great guy.

His response actually hurt more than the show being canceled.

We're here for you, Alex.

I'm in shock like all of you. Is there really absolutely no chance now?

Gawd, what a drag. Poor guy.

That does suck...I think it sucks even worse because Joel Silver was basically telling them S2 was in the bag, so the sudden cancellation came out of nowhere for them.

I know! I feel so sorry for them, more so than us even! And poor Dohring too, to have this happen so soon after the problems and cancellation of VM.....*sigh*

Alex is the best. He deserves the best and a hug D: -hugs him- Good luck Alex! I will be looking after you if you do any movies ~!

It blows. Jason was told not to take any jobs and Alex had to turn down work too. I'm assuming Sophia was told that too.

My heart is with all the cast and crew. Today effin' sucks.

Alex is a class act, all the way.

I hope he finds work quickly (and I hope he and JD remain BFFs). Good luck to Alex!

How can they possibly have doubted that Alex was the right man for the job? He's the only man for the job. I can't believe that after all that he's been through that they just throw him to the curb and cancel the show!!!!! These people must be on drugs or something, for them to have these doubts of this wonderful show, and these amazing actors. I just can't believe it!

It's completely outrageous and heartbreaking.

Alex is an incredible actor, there is no doubt in my mind that he will bounce back from this. It's just sad that it wont be with Moonlight.

What a gentleman, I will definitely look out for Alex's (and the rest of the cast) future projects.

You know, I never heard of him until Moonlight, and when I saw the first episode I hunted up everything I could find on Alex. I quickly rented all of his movies (Mary Bryant, Oyster Farmer, and a creepy bit of movie he and his friend wrote and starred in called Feed).

Regardless of the Moonlight status, I'm glad I got to know who this talented man is, and I'll be keeping an eye out for him. I'll be following his career.

I hope that this tragedy with Moonlight only serves to vault his career into something even greater. Look how many fans he's got now!

But I'm sure it's no comfort to him at this juncture.

Stupid TV stations. :(

Alex, don't blame the writers for your problems and the strike. They're the ones who wrote the show and made you a star. Without them, you wouldn't have a star role and you wouldn't be popular. However, I do blame them for going off the original storyline which I know, in my opinion, is one way to destroy a good show.

Seeing this show on the CW is too strange for me and since my DTV signal is acting out, I can't catch the CW for some strange reason.

CBS is super assholish in terms of ratings for new and everyone's favorite shows. For example, Family Matters and Step by Step were popular shows back in the day when TGIF existed. However, when those shows got moved to CBS, CBS axed them immediately because the ratings were crap.

Poor ratings = axed! Or...
Stupid story idea = axed!
CBS might've thought of a vampire solving crime and falling in love with a mortal as dumb. It may work in the books, but not on television.

The show was interesting until episode 14 aired. That's how I knew that my time to being a fan of this show has come.

There's always a chance to get another TV role, Alex.
